» Terms and conditions
Competitors
- Entrants must be 18 years of age or older.
- Entrants must be residing in Australia or New Zealand currently and for 12 months after the competition. (International visitors who are not long term residents are not eligble to enter.)
- Entrants can be amateurs or professionals.
- Entrants can enter in one division only. Expressions of interest will be taken with the view to allowing entry in the Open Pairs division in addition to a solo division.
- Entry fee is non-refundable, however, in the event of being unable to attend/compete, an entry ticket to attend one heat will still be honoured.
- Entrants must warm up appropriately, be fit to perform, and will resign from the competition if not fit to perform.
- Entrants must not be under the influence of drugs or alcohol during the competition.
- Entrants must not heckle or jeer.
- Entrants can join the audience at any stage during the competition.
- Dressing room access is for finalists only – no family members or friends.
Performance
- No nudity or g-strings allowed.
- Suitable dance attire which doesn’t expose private body parts must be worn.
- No boots above the ankles. Barefeet, heels, tape or sneakers are all acceptable.
- No props allowed. Props will not be judged. Costume accessories are allowed, but must be pre-approved by the organiser. (An example of a costume accessory is a cane or fan, an example of a prop is a chair.)
- No backup dancers or other people allowed on stage.
- No moisturisers, bronzers or lotions that can transfer onto the pole.
- Poles used will be X-STAGEs (built into a larger stage with a continuous flat stage area)
- Music
- No songs with explicit lyrics.
- Music must be pre-approved.
- Video and photography
- No video or photography allowed by competitors or spectators during the competition.
- Entrants agree to be photographed and filmed by the organiser or the organiser’s representatives.
- Entrants agree to be photographed and filmed for broadcast on Fuel TV.
- Entrants agree that video footage and photography can be used by Australian Pole Dance Pty Ltd for promotional purposes.
Winners
- Judges decision is final and not entered into.
- No communication with the judges is allowed.

The Australian Freestyle Women’s Pole Dance Champion 2009
The Australian Freestyle Men‘s Pole Dance Champion 2009
The Australian Pure Pole Dance Champion 2009
The Australian Open Pairs Pole Dance Champion 2009
- Organisers reserve the right to pursue damages should the title be used in any manner not consistent with the aforementioned conditions.
- Winners / title holders are not permitted to enter the same division the following year.
General
- The organiser is not liable for injury or damage.
- The organiser reserves the right to add to or amend rules.
- Any decisions not already addressed will be made by the organisers.
- Any failure to abide by the rules can result in disqualification.
Freestyle Pole Women's
- In addition to the general rules, the following rules apply to the Freestyle Pole Women's division.
- Entrant must be female only
- Length of performance is to be 4-5 minutes
Freestyle Pole Men's
- In addition to the general rules, the following rules apply to the Freestyle Pole Men's division.
- Entrant must be male only
- Length of performance is to be 4-5 minutes
Pure Pole
- In addition to the general rules, the following rules apply to the Pure Pole division.
- Entrant must be female only
- Length of performance is to be 3.5-4.5 minutes
- Music: A genre of music has been chosen for Pure Pole. In 2009 the genre is Classical. Entrants can choose a piece of classical music (instrumental, no vocals) to perform to. Some examples of suitable classical pieces to provide inspiration will be released by APD in the near future. Music choices must be approved by APD.
- Required pole moves: As part of the judging criteria, entrants will need to incorporate required pole moves into their routines, to demonstrate their technique and creative execution of these moves. The required pole moves (eg aerial holds, inverts etc) will be released along with judging criteria.
- Costume: Pure Pole entrants must follow this dance attire guideline:
i. Plain black dancewear – crop top (or longer), hotpants (full briefs or longer) or leotard.
ii. No branding or print on dancewear.
iii. Barefeet are preferred, but soft ballet/jazz shoes or tape is permitted.
iv. No shoes, dance shoes or pointes.
Open Pairs
- In addition to the general rules, the following rules apply to the Open Pairs division.
- Length of performance is to be 4-5 minutes
- Combinations of pairs can be:
i. Female and female
ii. Female and male
iii. Male and male
